The Omsk Polypropylene Plant “Poliom” has implemented a digital system ECONS that allows the production operators to make the best decisions using the visualization tools. ECONS is based on the highly-precise mathematical models that provide real-time calculation of various indicators and display them on the users’ monitors. The IT platform was developed by SIBUR, the Russia's largest petrochemical company.
The ECONS digital tool is integrated with an automated process control system (APCS) that receives and processes about 500 signals from the process equipment. ECONS transforms the key data and reflects them using the speedometers applied by the system to determine the ranges of the greatest efficiency. Due to the simplicity and prominence of this tool, the operator can quickly and accurately adjust the process.
At present, ECONS visualizes about 30 indicators at the Poliom plant, including pressure in the columns, temperature, consumption of main and auxiliary raw materials, process gases, etc.

Igor Tikhonov, director general of Poliom: “ECONS is the first big step on the road to the digital transformation of production process. Data visualization helps the staff to control the process efficiently not only with regard to technology: the operator immediately understands how the mode selected affects the process economics”. |
At the SIBUR facilities, the ECONS system generated profit in the amount of more than 1.5 billion rubles in 2021. Moreover, the system helps not only to increase economic efficiency, but also to achieve an additional ecological effect. ECONS provides for the most efficient use of raw materials and energy resources in the technological process, thereby reducing the carbon footprint.
Poliom, a joint venture of SIBUR and Gazprom Neft, was commissioned in 2012. According to the results of 2021, it is included in the TOP-5 largest taxpayers to the budget of the Omsk region.
