To reduce energy consumption, the company switched the heating system at one of the units to the use of by-products. The engineering solution was developed by the corporate specialists.
Prior to the new circuit introduction, the steam was supplied to the unit from an external utility provider. The implemented technology made it possible to abandon the steam coming from the thermal power plant and use the steam condensate generated in the polypropylene production shop for heating.
The introduction of closed cycle technology will reduce the consumption of thermal energy by 850 Gcal per year and decrease the amount of indirect greenhouse gas emissions by 200 kg per year (in CO2 equivalent). The volume of energy resources saved by the enterprise is enough to heat a residential building with 300 apartments for half a year.

Igor Tikhonov, director general of Poliom: “Over the past few years, the consumption model in all areas has completely changed. It has become more responsible. A closed production cycle, when waste from one process becomes a raw material for another product or an infrastructure resource, is now not just a business challenge, but also a strategic development area of the state. For us, the energy-saving measures are not only economically beneficial. Moreover, the plant is systematically reducing the carbon footprint in its products”. |
Poliom is implementing the approved package of measures aimed at reducing the energy consumption level. Such measures include introduction of the digital control systems, transition to the energy-efficient lighting sources, implementation of closed-cycle technologies, upgrade of equipment and processes, and other solutions.
